TAG® Solves Military’s Heat and Power Consumption Problem with First Tactical Hybrid Server

Dulles, Virginia - (Tuesday, September 14, 2004)

TAG® , an engineering services and systems provider of program-specific IT solutions for military use, has created a tactical hybrid line of servers that assure low power usage and low heat output in a small form factor—a first for use by the Department of Defense. TAG is currently providing military users with the answer to the issue that has been increasingly plaguing tactical applications. As clock speed and processing performance on computing platforms increase, so do heat generation and power consumption. Systems currently available on the market demand tremendous levels of input power and an increasingly greater need for efficient chassis cooling. In today’s tactical environment, which typically involves high ambient temperatures and limited cooling and power resources, special designs are required for reliable performance. TAG’s solution for the high performance, low power/low heat dilemma provides 300-400% more-efficient power consumption and thermal output than the typical commercially available server in a 19” short-rack unit.

TAG has proactively identified and developed the tactical hybrid technology that resolves the problem so many of our customers have been facing in the field”, said TAG Executive Vice President and COO Marcus DeSouza. “US warships and ground units can’t tow coolers and generators behind them to supplement the hardware needs for their missions. The military needs a better, more cost-effective way to manage IT performance taking into consideration power and heat issues. TAG has developed the way to do just that.”
